How It Works

Your growing season is simply the number of days between your last spring frost and first fall frost. This number tells you which crops you can grow to full maturity outdoors. Short-season crops like radishes and lettuce only need about 60 days. Medium-season crops like carrots and broccoli need around 90 days. Long-season crops like tomatoes and peppers need 120 days or more. If your season is short, you can extend it by starting seeds indoors, using cold frames, or covering plants with row cover fabric on chilly nights.
